But You Need Me Not
In class I took two paper clips
Bent them, shaped them into what I want
What I need, what I chose to script
But you need me not
I need you like a prisoner needs parole
A great escape, a timeless feat
In such time, you are my concrete role
But you need me not
The sky has begun to lose its pigment
Something that I didn’t ask for or expect
Something that makes my chest lament
But you need me not
You took the two little pieces of love
Something precious, something whole
You looked at them and in your pocket you shoved
But you need me not
And I’ll keep making the paper clip men
Hoping that this would be you and I
Crying and laughing time and time again
But you need me not
