DECA Week is a week-long event where the DECA club hosts a variety of activities both during school and after, with the ability to win “Diamonds” during these events. DECA week goes from Monday through Friday, with different activities happening each day.
“I think it was a wonderful week. We had students highly involved in some basic things like test preparation, you know, learning more about DECA, finance marketing, accounting, etc., but we had a fun time doing it too,” said DECA Advisor Tamara Moore. “We had a scavenger hunt, some games throughout the week – a lot of lunch games too. The lunch games were mostly to get in front of all the students, have them participate in some fun activities, and let them see that DECA is really active in our school.”
On Monday, November 27th, a game of Hangman was held during C and D lunches, and a DECA Shark Tank game was hosted after school in the Business Hallway.
On Tuesday, they hosted a Dress-Up Day, where members would dress up in business attire in order to represent DECA. And during lunch, they hosted a game of Wordle. After school, they held a scavenger hunt around the school, beginning in Mrs. Moore’s classroom.
Then on Wednesday, they held a Kahoot game during lunch, and used it to prepare for their competition. They also had more competition prep after school in Mrs. Moore’s room, hosted by DECA’s Executive Officer Team.
On Thursday, they held a game called DECA Donuts during lunch, and held a dinner night at BJ’s after school.
On the last day, the 1st of December, they had a Dress-Up day where they wore their club colors, and during lunch they held a Tie Tying competition.
Although DECA Week was seen mostly as a success and fun, there were still mixed feelings towards the outcome. Some of the activities didn’t have as much participation as it used to in previous years.
“We were disappointed in the scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt did not have many participants and that was one of the most fun events in the past years. I’m not sure why we didn’t get a lot of participation, maybe the day we chose was a day that people were involved in a lot of other things,” said Moore.
But at the end of it all, DECA Week was still pretty successful, and everyone had a good time participating in the activities, playing games, and bringing students closer to DECA.
