As of this year, Coral Springs Charter School introduced a girls’ chorus. It is led by the new teacher, Ms. Aviton and it is just getting started. Until this year, there has only been an only boys’ chorus, and a mixed chorus, however now an exclusive only girls’ chorus is in the making.
Girls’ chorus is for girls who want to sing with a group of other girls. It gives them the opportunity to perform on stage and showcase their vocals. They learn to work as a group to create a soothing harmony. In the club, Ms. Aviton teaches you how to sing and improve your skills. The club was made for those who cannot fit the normal chorus class into their regular school day schedules. Ms. Aviton also states, “I wanted to individually give a boys choir and a girls choir to continue to get kids to be more interested in it.”
So far, there have only been two informational meetings. The meetings are located in the chorus room, in room 402. There has not been an official meeting as of yet, nor any information on specific dates. However, Ms. Aviton is working hard into fitting the club’s meetings into everyone’s schedules. She wants to make it as flexible as possible, and wants to pick dates that are appropriate for everyone. Ms. Aviton states, “So far the students have told me their best suited day is a Tuesday. So we will be meeting on a Tuesday from 2:40-3:15 to 3:30.”
Ms. Aviton also explains if anyone is interested in joining the club, to meet her in her room 240 and explain your interests and best suited day for meetings. Once she gets the official dates sorted, she will inform everyone.
The club does not have any dues, however you need to purchase the required attire. Which is a black dress and pearl jewelry (pearl necklace and pearl bracelet), and black dress shoes.
This year the club will not be having any competitions. If students who are not already in the chorus elective interested in competing, they can join the chorus class next year and can participate in districts and states. However, students who are either in the chorus elective or clubs will be performing in the Winter and Spring show.
Though the club is still in works and there are no official members as of yet, there are students like freshman Chloe Schuhmann that are ready and excited to support and join the club.
The introduction of the girls’ chorus at Coral Springs Charter School marks a new chapter for chorus. Ms. Aviton allows opportunities for girls unable to join the chorus elective and girls who want to collaborate with their female peers. So, be sure to see Ms. Aviton to gain more information.
