DECA is a club at Coral Springs Charter School. It’s a very important club at the school and a very popular club to join. Many people wonder what DECA is and what benefits come from joining this club. DECA is runned by Ms. Moore and the official officers are Gianna Weingard and Isabella Ugalde.
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. For seniors there could be scholarships available. Members will learn public speaking skills and business knowledge. This could really help in the long run, making connections with others on trips and when trying to get a job later on.
Recently DECA has been recruiting new members, with the first interest meeting being held on August 22nd after school. Old members and new members were allowed to attend. DECA is considered a very popular club to join here at charter because it shows leadership and looks very good when it comes to applying to colleges.
Although, DECA is a challenging club, since in order to go to districts you must take an exam and you have to be able to pass the exam. DECA consists of monthly meetings, dress up days, and dinner nights. If it is your first year in DECA you need a minimum of 15 diamonds in order to keep your spot on the DECA committee. The first monthly meeting was held in the auditorium on September 19th. Then, the first dress up day was on September 18th. Dress up days consist of days where you must come to school in professional business attire to represent the professionalism of DECA. There are different ways members could earn diamonds in order to stay in the DECA club which you earn by participating in events, participating in dress up days, and going to the scheduled meetings.
Since there is a test you have to pass in order to go to districts and states DECA also hosts test prep sessions after school at 2:45 in Mrs. Moores room who is the head of DECA. DECA will also go to the Panthers Ice Den for a field trip as well having different guest speakers come to different DECA groups to inform them and speak to them. As of right now they are unsure of the certain date but they do know it will take place in November.
Overall, DECA is a great club to join if you’re looking for something challenging and learning leadership skills. There are multiple benefits when it comes to joining DECA. DECA can be very helpful to these young minds in the future.
