Dear Panthers,
Welcome to another thrilling edition of the Panthers Playbook, as we uncover our sport’s last few games of the season. This week we will find our Football team, Bowling team, JV/Varsity Cross country team, JV/Varsity Volleyball team games that they had last week.
Starting with the football team: On October 17th, our Panther football team played against North Broward Prep, they put up a good fight but unfortunately lost the game with a score of 8-48. Their next game is on Friday 10/25, it’s a home game, at Glades, against Stoman Douglas, come out and support.
Next, we have bowlings: Andrew Groothious, the coach of our school’s bowling team, has led the team to a great season so far.
On October 7, our bowling team played at the BCAAA Bowling Tournament. The girl’s team successfully took the big win home, placing First! Our boys fought to the fullest and made it fifth. Congratulations to both our boys and girls.
The bowling team had a game against Stoneman Douglas on October 15th. The girls won all 3 games. However, the boys unfortunately lost all their 3 games.
The next day, October 16th, they faced Coral Springs High School. The girls once again won all three games. Coming from a loss, the boys stepped up and won all three games.
Next, we have our cross-country teams: On October 17, they had a meet for the BCAA MSAA Championships.
All of our runners’ teams participated in the 5K race. The girls JV team placed second with a total time of 2:09:07, an average time of 25:49, and a score of 58. Congratulations to the following runners. Junior Brooke Schwartz, for placing 10th, with a total time of 25:01.4 and a score of 8. Freshman Hailey Lockwitz, for placing 11th with a total time of 25:42.2 and a score of 9. Freshman Taylor Hartley, for placing 14th with a total score of 25:54.3 and a score of 11.
Our Girl’s Varsity team placed fourth, with a total time of 1:51:08, an average time of 22:13, and a score of 111. Congratulations to the following runners, eighth grader Kendal Parrott, for placing 10th with a time of 20:33.7. Freshman Lily Richardson for placing 17th with a total time of 21:51.3. Freshman Alyson Thomas, for placing 18th with a total time of 21:52.1.
Our boy’s JV team placed seventh place. They had a total time of 2:23:31, an average time of 28:42, and a score of 187. Congratulations to the following runners, senior Beylian De Jesus for placing 52nd with a total time of 25:41.9, and a score of 30. Sophomore Jayden Matos, for placing 55th with a total time of 26:15.8 and a score of 33. Sophomore Fox Waterman, for placing 66th with a total time of 28:34.2 and a score of 37.
Our boys Varsity team placed 12th, with a total time of 1:37:59, an average time of 19:35, and a score of 347. Congratulations to the following runners, sophomore Lucas Werth, for placing 50th with a total time of 18:55.1. Junior Jordan Head, for placing 53rd and a total time of 19:01.4. Eighth-grader Austin Stewart, for placing 76th with a total time of 19:45.9.
Up next Our Volleyball teams: On October 4th, the JV Volleyball team was invited to play at a tournament that 18 teams attended. This tournament was a 2-day event, where on the first day they played 3 different schools, and on the second day they played until eliminated.
On their first day, our Lady Panthers won two games out of three. The first game was against Cardinal Gibbons. They successfully won in 3 sets, 2-1. Set one ended with the scores of 25-22, the second 23-25, losing the set, but then on set 3 the girls played harder and won 16-14. Sophomore Allison Pauley was awarded “Player of the Game.”
After that game, the girls played a match against Lourdes Academy. They unfortunately lost that match, 0-2. In the first set, they ended with the scores of 15-25, and the second 19-25. Seventh grader London Greene was awarded “Player of the Match.”
After an hour of break, the girls put in all their work and won their next match against Highlands Christian, 2-0. The first set ended with the scores of 25-9, and the second 25-16. Eighth grader, Jordan Reed was awarded “Player of the Game.”
On the second day, the girls started their morning by playing against Pembroke Pines, and won, 2-0. The first set ends in 25-23, and the second 25-14. Eighth-grader Mia Gonzalez was given “Player of the Game.”
After winning this game they were able to advance into the finals of the silver division where they played against Cypress Bay. Our lady panthers fought hard to win this match but unfortunately, they lost, 0-2, Placing sixth in the tournament. The first set ended in 14-25, and the second 22-25. Seventh grader Valezka Barrios was given “Player of the Game.”
Later on, the girls had their last season game against North Broward Prep on October 7th, where they won, 2-0. The first set ended in 25-14, and the second 25-13. Sophomore Morgan Patrick was given “Player of the Game.”
With this the JV Volleyball season ends, with their record of 17-4.
Our Varsity Volleyball also had their last season game on October 7th, unfortunately, they lost but with a fight as they were able to take a set from NBP, 1-3. Each set ended very close, 17-25, 25-15, 15-25, and 20-25. Our top performers for this game are senior Jaide Keen with a hitting percentage of .375%, 3 blocks, and seven kills. Samantha McMillan with 14 kills, 11 digs and two assists. Sophomore Olivia Greco with 31 assists. Jaide was given “Player of the Game.”
On October 14, our Lady Panthers had their first round of Districts against Cardinal Gibbons. Unfortunately, the girls lost officially ending their season with a record of 10-8.
Even though this game was a loss, the girls still fought hard to take two hard-fought sets from Gibbons, extending the game to five sets, 2-3. The first set ended with scores of 15-25, the second 25-17, the third 22-25, the fourth 25-19, and the fifth 8-15. Our top performers for this game are, junior Isabella Nilsson with a hitting percentage of .667% and two kills. Junior Samantha McMillan with 19 kills and one assist. Junior Mia Luersen with five blocks and three kills. Senior Allyson Gates acquired a total of 11 digs. Sophomore Olivia Greco had 18 assists.
