As of late October 2024, the US Presidential Elections Early Voting is being held, and ballots for our city are being polled locally right next door to our school in the library, causing many problems for students. Students are being held up in traffic, unable to leave the school premises, and unable to study due to the loud noise coming from the outside chaos, and parents are stuck in between voters when trying to get their kids home from school.
This, in turn, causes a stem of problems, as one creates another and another. If a student wants to drive home or to somewhere after school, they cannot get out due to the long lines of traffic of voters, they could end up being late to a meeting or scheduled event they had planned weeks in advance for just because of the local elections. If a student wants to study in the library, a place usually known as a safe haven of quiet, is turned into an uproar of honking from outside, making it impossible to concentrate on work. Even parents aren’t able to escape from the election’s problems, as when they go to pick up their kid, they get stuck in the middle of voters, ready to turn in their ballots, which can force them to miss an important meeting, a business call, or any at-home task they need to do.
Students have reportedly also been being bothered recently by supporters of both the democratic and republican parties while outside the library. Students have complained that when going to the library to study, they’ve been stopped by these supporters, as they try to convince the students to pick or join a political side, despite most being unable to even vote. These supporters end up being a hindrance to the students as they lose their own time trying to brush them off, in a still polite manner.
Along with students having problems, teachers have also had their fair-share of issues with the local elections. Teacher Ms. Gelman was in agreement to statements talking about constant trafic, and loud noise, stating it was, “stupid and annoying.” Many other teachers share the same opinion, as the ruckus outside of the school ends up causing an annoyance and distraction for them.
All in all, the Presidential Elections Early Voting has become a large problem for students, and teachers alike. They’ve been causing many disturbances as of late, and will continue until November 5th, and we will have to await this same problem’s occurrence in four more years.
