Dear Panthers,
The winter season has officially begun, and our teams are preparing mentally and physically for a successful year. Last week, the soccer teams played some wonderful matches, showing great determination and passion on the field. The girls cross country team ran passionately as they received amazing news at the end. At the same time, the swimming team splashed their way to regionals.
Starting with the soccer team: On Monday, November 4th, our Boy Varsity and JV teams, along with the girl’s varsity team, kicked off their season with a match against Pine Crest. Despite the strong effort, the varsity boys were defeated with a final score of 2-4. However, the JV boys and Varsity girls secured a victory. The girls scored 4-1, and the boys scored 1-0.
On Wednesday, November 6th, the boy’s varsity team played a match against Everglades. They put up a strong fight but were defeated with a final score of 0-3. On the same day, the JV boys traveled to Calvary Christian Academy for their first away game of the season, winning the match with a score of 2-0.
On Thursday, November 7th, the boys’ varsity and JV teams, along with the girls’ varsity and JV teams, played against Archbishop McCarthy. The varsity boys struggled, and although they had determination, they lost 0-5. The JV boys also struggled, losing 0-3. The varsity girls tied with a score of 0-0 and the JV girls were defeated 0-2.
Next up, the girl’s cross country team: On Friday, November 8th, the girl’s cross country team competed at the district meet. Facing off 15 teams, the girls finished 6th delivering an amazing performance as a team, with a total time of 1:48:21, an average time of 21:40, and a score of 161.
Congratulations to the following runners for their impressive performance at the meet. Eighth-grader Kendal Parrott finished 8th with a time of 19:45.5. She was joined by her teammates, freshman Alyson Thompson who placed 30th with a time of 21:31.8, and seventh-grader Cecilia Kozlowski who placed 36th with a time of 21:47.6. With all this dedication and determination the girls advance to states for the first time in Charter’s history!
Moving on to the swimming team: On Saturday, November 9th, the swimming team competed at regionals where 10 swimmers advanced to states! Out of 19 schools, the boys placed tenth with 105 points. On the girls’ side, out of 18 schools, the girls placed eight with 143 points.
In the 200-yard Medley Relay, sophomore Anthony Palumbo, sophomore Brian Hamilton, sophomore John Albornoz, and sophomore Christopher Chaison, swam to eighth place at 1:42.36. On the girl’s side, junior Alejandra Gil-Restrepo, sophomore Mariana Montes, sophomore Addison Palumbo, and Junior Amanda Robins placed sixth with a time of 1:57.99. In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Alejandra finished 5th with a time of 1:59.65.
In the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Addison, Claire, Amanda, and Sam earned eighth place with a time of 1:48.58. John showed off his skills in the 200-yard Individual Medley, placing fifth with a time of 2:00.00, and in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing sixth with a time of 1:00.40. In the 50-yard freestyle, Brian secured a victorious fourth place with a time of 22.00.
In the 100-yard Backstroke, Anthony placed seventh with a time of 56.24. On the women’s side, Mariana also earned two fifth-place finishes: one in the 100-yard Backstroke with a time of 1:01.39, and another in the 100-yard Butterfly, with a time of 59.89.
In the 400-yard Free Relay, John, Christopher, Brian, and Anthony secured seventh with a time of 3:24.41. On the girls’ team, Addison, Amanda, Alejandra, and Mariana placed eight with a time of 3:48.54. In the 500-yard freestyle, Alejandra showed off her swimming skills placing third with a time of 5:21.59. Right behind her, Addison placed ninth with a time of 5:34.34.
