“With performances and concerts, I always want to tell a story.” New band and guitar teacher Brandon Arguello has begun teaching at Charter. He teaches Guitar 1 and 2, as well as helping out with the band.
He attended Broward College for three years to get his associates degree, and Stetson University for three more to get his degree. While in college, his goal was to become a music therapist, but his experiences with his band teachers at Ramblewood Middle School and JP Taravella convinced him to go into music education.
His teaching style is unlike most, but the impact he makes is huge. “That’s just how I am. I have ADHD, so I get distracted easily… But yeah, I try to be goofy,” said Arguello.
He also organizes the guitar concerts throughout the year. “(In) Guitar, I want you guys to tell your story. That’s why I gave (them) the option of picking the music.” He emphasized his want to tell a story. “I want you guys to project yourself as a musician.”
Arguello plays plenty of instruments in his own life, such as flute, piccolo, french horn, trumpet, alto and tenor, marimbas, marching instruments, baritone, and mellophone. He enjoys many genres of music, but his favorite genres are Japanese rock, Spanish music, orchestral music, and video game music.
Outside of teaching and helping with Charter’s marching band, he spends time with his friends, family, and his dog. “Try to live a normal life. Play some video games.”
Arguello wants students to take one thing from being in his class. “To have fun with music. Simple as that. It’s such a simple answer, but a lot of people forget to enjoy it.”
“Just have fun with music.”
