This past Thursday, November 15th our boys’ varsity team played against Calvary Christian Academy. The boys’ team won with a score of 2-1. This is a big accomplishment for the boys’ Varsity team since this is the first win of the season.
According to the boys they are all very happy with the outcome of this game since their last game was a really bad loss for them after the Mavericks won 5-0. However, our Panthers came back bigger and stronger this game. The coaches are proud of achieving the win due to their dedication and their hard work. So far our varsity boys have played five games and struggled to win their past four games, but they finally had a comeback with confidence, strength, and agility in their most recent game.
During the game, no goals were scored in the first half. Instead all the remainder of the goals were scored in the second half. The first goal scored in the second half was made by a Calvary player, sophomore Elijah Diaz (#9). Although, our Panthers were able to make a comeback and make the score tied around 54 minutes into the game with junior Lucas Yahney (#37), who plays midfield, scored a goal. This landed Calvary and our Panthers tied 1-1.
This made our boys happy to tie, as Calvary would not be ahead of them anymore. Although, towards the end of the second half Matthew Baptiste (#30), a striker, scored another point for the Panthers. This landed the Panthers ahead of Calvary by one point. This made the boys extremely enthusiastic and made the coaches proud. Eventually, the Panthers were able to take home the win for their first win of the season. This was a very rewarding and amazing moment for our Panthers.
Here are some words from our Panthers about their game last Thursday, sophomore Thomas Givens stated, “Yesterday, we had a good game, I think the result is exactly what we were hoping for although, it was a tough challenge, I am proud of the boys, especially Matthew getting that goal that made us win the game, I feel as though this is a good step towards our end goal of the season.” Thomas was very happy with the outcome of this game. Matthew also had some great points he wanted to point out, “This game was amazing, we worked well as a team, we were able to connect passes, and then I was able to make the last goal in the very few minutes of the game we had left, then I ran to my teammates on the bench to celebrate.”
Overall, our Panthers did a really good job against Calvary bringing home a win from losing the past couple of games. Our Panthers were really proud of this since it was their first win of the season. Hopefully, we see more of our Boy’s Varsity Soccer team bringing home more goals for us to share and value all of our boys’ hard work they put into these games.
