Here at Charter, there are so many amazing clubs you can join to do something productive in your free-time. DECA is a club where students will always have something to do, whether it regards helping the community by doing car washes, dinner nights or donating to charities, it also lets you learn how to manage business.
A brief description of DECA is that it prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. While this all sounds like a great learning experience there is a test that you have to study for, that you must complete in order to stay in the club. The test is different for everyone, someone may be taking it in marketing while someone else has a different category. To help you prepare for this test you can go to the test preps that can be in person or online. If you prefer to go in person you’re able to go to Ms. Moore room at 2:45 afterschool. Or if you have a tight schedule you can do it in the comfort of your own home.
DECA’s comprehensive learning program also gives many students opportunities to mostly seniors who want to get a scholarship to a college with business-like qualities, since this club looks good on a college application. This program connects to business offering its members a realistic insight into industry and promotes meaningful relevant learning that students will be able to apply in the real world. This club also promotes competition like going to districts if you pass an exam that I recently went over in the second paragraph. Going to districts can help you show off your incredible work, and connect with other students who share the same interest as you. Special guest speakers may come to speak and give their insights on DECA letting you hear the real deal.
Since DECA is a very hands-on experience as well, you have to make an effort to stay in the club by receiving diamonds. In your first year you should have at least 15 diamonds to stay in the club. The teacher that is in charge of DECA gives many opportunities to get these diamonds such as partaking in car washes, dinner nights, dress out days, and going to meetings. Those are just a few, but there are so many ways that earning diamonds shouldn’t be an issue.
DECA is a club that teaches students about business through community service, competitions and hand on activities. Members prepare for tests in areas like marketing and finance. When members pass the test, it will benefit their chance of getting into their dream college. This club offers opportunities for scholarships, especially for seniors. DECA helps build real-world business skills and looks amazing on college applications. This club has so many benefits and positive outcomes, don’t miss out on this opportunity.
