This upcoming week, our varsity Panthers boys basketball team had a game against the Barbara Goleman Gators. This took place on Tuesday, January 14th. This game started off with players Darriyan Christian, Justen Morgan, Taije Malcolm, Rudolph Brown, and Camden Fearon. In this game, the Panthers kept high energy and a positive attitude.
Our Panthers started off strong by scoring 3 points and then proceeded to keep up their streak. Eventually, the Goleman did catch up to them leaving them in a tie-up until the Goleman came back and were eventually beating the Panthers from 25 to 21.
However, our Panthers kept their game faces and persevered throughout the game and were eventually able to pass the Goleman with a score of 31-29. Eventually, during the last period, the Goleman were catching up the last couple minutes of the game and ended up tying the score to 37-37. Our Panthers are not quitters and decided to keep going until the last nine seconds of the fourth period and Camden Fearon was able to score the winning point for our Panthers that was able to leave the score at 39-37. Our boys’ Varsity team was ecstatic they had taken home the win.
In addition, team captain Justen Morgan had a few words to say about the game along with Rudolph Brown. Morgan is a senior at Charter who plays shooting guard. Before the beginning of the game, Morgan was feeling extremely confident and motivated that his team was going to bring home a win for the Panthers.
In addition, this win against the Gators gives the varsity boys basketball a chance at going to regionals. Although they were able to win this game, Justen does feel, as a team captain, that he and his team could work on rebounding. He is also extremely joyful they were able to bring home the win on Tuesday.
He eventually wants to extend his career in college. Morgan transferred to Coral Springs Charter because of better opportunities, it's an A-list school, and it has teachers and people who care for one another.
With this being his last year playing for the school he is really going all out and having fun this year and enjoying the rest of the time he has left at Charter since he will miss students and staff dearly once he graduates.
The next candidate that had a few words to say is Brown. He is a starter who plays center. Before the game Rudolph was extremely nervous since this game was their way into regionals but once he was able to get on the court all his worries went away and was able to play to the best of his abilities.
If there is something Brown believes he and his team should work on is to not let a game loss bring them down and to build a better and stronger bond that way it will also be applied on the court during games.
While the Panthers gained their win from the Gators, Brown felt happy and proud of himself and his teammates with the amazing work they were able to put out on that court. He transferred to Charter to better himself and his opportunities ahead of him and since it is a safer school with a better environment he believed it was a good option to better himself.
All in all, Coach Groothius is extremely proud of the boys, he states, “our game against Goleman they came in as a confident team and they had a good amount of wins this season and they had a really tough shooting guard, I believe we did a really good job holding that player and scoring eight points, we also had a great offense and our great energy and defense is what brought home the win.”
Overall our boys varsity basketball team played exceptionally good on Tuesday, January 14th. They were able to persevere through the hard times when the Gators were higher in score than them but still were able to keep their high energy and not be able to give up. They played a really good game and we hope to see more to come with great plays. Give a round of applause to our boys varsity team for their win against the Goleman Gators.
