The boy's soccer team's season has sadly came to end. They were defeated by Calvary Christian Academy on Friday, January 24. The boys lost 0-3 and were shut out by Calvary’s impressive defensive play. Calvary is a very well-respected school and has been a very successful program for years now.
In their first matchup this season they beat Calvary Christian Academy 2-1 at their home field, Cypress Park. This was a well fought victory, and the boys were very confident after this win. It was their first win of the season, and they won three consecutive games because of this.
The boys finished their season with an improved record of 6-13. They also finished third in their district with a record of 2-1.
When asked about their performance this year Jonathan Lupo said, “As one of the few returning players from last year I thought we definitely improved this year. We only had two wins last season and tripled that and got it up to six this season. We are going to keep improving together in the offseason and come back next season even better.”
In their playoff game the boys were down many key players. This ultimately contributed to their loss in this game. Their starting striker, Thomas Givens suffered a season ending ankle injury just days prior to the game. He is now in a walking boot and recovering.
Another key player, Bryson Stawicki suffered a season ending meniscus injury just a week prior to the game. There were a few more players who were unable to play in the game and this cost the boys their season.
The last few consecutive seasons have not been the greatest for the boys and many have said they are being overshadowed now by the girl's team.
The girl's soccer team finished 13-5-2, and they also finished first in their district with a record of 3-0-1.
When asked about the girl's success and the boys losing season Matthew Baptiste, a player on the boy's team said this, “The girls did play better than us this season and have some of their better players graduating this year. We are going to come back next season, and we are going to out perform them.”
The boys season sadly came to a familiar, but bitter ending. It was not what everyone hoped for going into their final game but there is plenty of time to prepare for next season. The boys are determined to have a more successful season next year and will be coming with vengeance.
