The Grammy’s have once again occurred, and celebrities are trying to make a statement. As they walked the red carpet, viewers’ jaws dropped more and more, seeing the interesting choices made by the designer and artist. A giant cone hat, a castle on someone’s head, a fully clear dress, those tuning in were taken aback.
Sabrina Carpenter
“Short n’ Sweet” star Sabrina Carpenter was dressed in a custom JW Anderson pastel blue gown, decked out with feathers and pearls, her hair coiffed as always. Performing throughout the night, Carpenter sported three other looks. Two of those looks, a pastel blue bodysuit and a sparkly suit bodysuit, were Dolce and Gabbana, while her post-Grammy outfit was a sparkly gold Atelier Versace.
Chappell Roan
Midwest Pop Princess Chappell Roan brought her usual A-game, wearing a vintage Jean Paul Gaultier spring 2003 gown. Featuring an asymmetrical skirt printed with Dega’s ballerinas, the embellished streaks of yellow and teal added an artist’s touch to her outfit. During the ceremony, she changed into a few outfits. One was a custom pale blue Thom Brown cropped jacket with shoulder pads, as well as a matching petticoat and corset. She also wore rodeo boots with a western inspired bodysuit for her performance of Pink Pony Club. Her final look for the night was a gray Acne Studios dress covered in bows, with an odd, gold, cone-shaped Piers Atkinson hennin. This hat fell off mid-acceptance speech, but just added to her usual charm.
Billie Eilish
“Hit Me Hard and Soft” star walked the carpet in a black collared jacket over a white button up, black slacks, and leather loafers. She added on a black bucket hat, silver belt chain and ring with a small pair of oval glasses.
Taylor Swift
Global superstar Taylor Swift arrived in a Vivienne Westwood asymmetric minidress, Casadei heels, and a Lorraine Schwartz T charm.
Charli XCX
While many expected brat star Charli XCX to wear her signature brat green, she changed the game by wearing a slate blue Jean Paul Gaultier gown debuted less than a week ago. The dress features ruffles throughout, as well as a leg slit up to her upper thigh/hip. It had a plunge neckline, and she added dark eyeliner and black cut-out sandals to emphasize.
Doechii
Newly viral singer Doechii wore a few outfits throughout the night. Her first outfit was a fitted button-up and striped dress with a tie, changing into a less fitted, larger gown, with a cropped suit jacket for her acceptance. When performing, she wore two different outfits sporting Thom Browne’s usual red and blue armbands.
Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar appeared at the Grammys in a denim-on-denim outfit, commonly referred to as a Canadian tuxedo, to accept his award. “I think Kendrick’s outfit was a diss at Drake, ‘cause he was wearing a Canadian tuxedo and Drake is Canadian,” said sophomore Aidan Willis. This would align with Lamar and Drake’s beef, with Lamar winning many awards that night for his diss track, Not Like Us.
Olivia Rodrigo
Sour and GUTS singer Olivia Rodrigo walked the carpet in a black, plunge-neck dress. She emphasized her silhouette with a halter neck and large keyhole, as well as large cutouts on the sides of her dress and no back fabric.
Kanye and Bianca Censori
Now for the outfit that shocked us all, Bianca Censori and Kanye West started out on the carpet more clothed than usual public sightings, appearing in a thick black fur coat. However, this didn’t last very long. In videos, she seems to turn around, having a quick conversation with West, and then dropping the coat to the floor. Underneath the coat was a completely see-through dress, before Censori and West were quickly escorted off of the carpet. “She needs to run, like right now,” said sophomore Lillian Kon. The internet went wild, with users going as far as saying, “This is the issue for me, he had problems with Kim and how she dressed and he has Bianca exposed. Make it make sense,” or, “Her name is Bianca Censori, yet nothing was censored.”
Jaden Smith
Jaden Smith wore a Louis Vuitton suit, but that wasn’t what caught the internet’s attention. His giant, castle-shaped headpiece he wore on the carpet shocked fans all over social media. “I liked Jaden Smith’s Grammys outfit because the castle looks great with his black suit. It definitely gave a new sense of fashion of what celebrities wear at formal events,” stated junior Britney Patricio. Designed by Dora Abodi, it is inspired by the Bran Castle, thought to have inspired Dracula.
This year’s Grammys was a fashion medley like no other. Setting a precedent for the rest of 2025, only time will show us how crazy celebrity outfits become. Ranging from a castle hat to literally nothing, this was quite the eclectic mix.
