Dear Panthers,
Get ready for another issue of the Panthers Playbook. As our winter sports wrap up their incredible seasons, it’s time for spring sports to step in and shine.
Starting with the girl’s basketball varsity team: On Saturday, February 8th, the girls won districts, defeating Saint Andrews with a score of 45-41. This was a well-fought game, and each athlete gave it their all on the court.
On Thursday, February 13th, the girls advanced to the first round of states. Unfortunately, they lost against Bishop Verot, 49-67, ending their season. The Girls continue to train for an even better season next year.
Next up, the Boys’ baseball team: On Monday, the JV team hosted their first game against Westminster Academy, successfully defeating them 17-0.
On Tuesday, February 11th, the boys’ varsity team traveled to St. Thomas Aquinas for their season opener but fell short by a 3-7 loss.
Despite the loss, our Panthers showcased strong individual performances. Junior Carter Hayden, senior Yadisson Karbalaieasghar, and sophomore Jackson Taylor each contributed a run. Three hits were also acquired, each by Jackson, senior Anton Fournier, and senior Mason Alexander. The Panthers also recorded three RBIs—one from Anton, and two from Jackson, who also has a homerun.
The pitchers delivered three strikeouts—two from senior Jack Foti and one from freshman Tyler Stertzbach. The team earned a total of six earned runs, four from Jack, and two from Tyler.
On Wednesday, February 12th, the varsity boys traveled to Coral Glades but fell short with a 2-7 loss.
The Panthers still gave it their all this game, senior Julian Spinola and Yadisson both earned a run. The team acquired six hits, one from junior Rodney Chung, one from freshman Chris Lora, two from Mason, and two from Jackson. The Panthers earned two RBIs—one from Jackson, and the other one from Chris.
The pitchers delivered seven strikeouts—six from Rodney and one from junior Edward Canard, who also acquired three earned runs.
Following, the track and field teams: On Thursday, February 13th, the boys and girls competed in the Calvary Christian FTL Varsity Meet. Both teams placed third out of 11 teams, the boys scored 91 and the girls scored 85.
In the 100m race, freshman Ava Dorvil led the team with an 18th-place finish (13.57). Junior Regan Pinkston placed 24th (13.91), and freshman Laurie Pierre Louis placed 35th (14.51) (out of 61 athletes).
In the 200m race, Ava placed 11th (28.60). Reagan placed 19th (29.33). Laurie placed 20th (29.38). Junior Anayah Bell joined the girls placing 23rd (29.65). Freshman Kailah Christian placed 38th (31.84) (out of 45 athletes). Kailah also participated in the 400 meters race placing 17th (1:13.02) (out of 24 athletes).
In the girls’ 800m race, freshman Lily Richardson placed ninth (2:41.42). Junior Anabella Thornberry was right behind her placing 12th (2:43.98). Freshman Taylor Hartley placed 18th (2:52.92) (out of 22 athletes).
In the 1600m race, eighth-grader Kendal Parrott placed second (5:49.08). Freshman Alyson Thomas was right behind Kendal, Placing fourth (6:00.78). Seventh-grader Cecilia Kozlowski placed fifth (6:04.02). Freshman Sydney McDougall placed 11th (6:17.75) (out of 18 athletes).
In the 100m Hurdles, freshman Sarah Manigat placed second (17.92). Freshman Chelsea Garbizo placed eighth (19.86). Freshman Heather Churchill placed tenth (20.38) (out of 16 athletes).
In the 400m Hurdles, Sarah placed third (1:15.22). Chelsea placed sixth (1:22.52), and Heather right behind Chelsea placed seventh (1:23.59) (out of eight athletes).
In the 4×10 Relay, Laurie, Ava, Reagan, and Anayah worked hard to place second (out of six teams) (54.10). In the 4×800 Relay, Taylor, Alyson, Cecilia, and Kendal also placed second (out of six teams) (10:57.14).
In the Pole Vault, Anabella placed fourth (2.25m | 7 ‘4.5″). Junior Lilia Conticello placed sixth (1.80m | 5 ‘10.75”) (out of 12 athletes).
In the long jumps, Anayah placed 11th (4.30m | 14’ 1.25”). Laurie placed 16th (3.97m | 13’ 0.25”) (out of 20 athletes). In the triple jump, Anayah placed third (9.44m | 30’ 11.75”) (out of eight athletes).
In the shot pull, senior Trinity Dorvil placed second (10.22m and a conv 33’ 6.5”). Junior Kaitlyn Stewart placed seventh (8.19m | 26’ 10.5”) (out of 23 athletes). In the discus, Trinity placed fifth (26.86m | 88’ 1”). Kaitlyn Placed 15th (18.31m | 60’ 1”) (out of 22 athletes).
On the boys’ side, in the 100m race, junior Noah Yarbough placed 20th (11.94. Freshman Frankie Romano Jr. placed 22nd (12.00). Sophomore Jenali Marsh (12.02). Sophomore Christian Clinkscale placed 30th (12.13) (out of 72 athletes).
In the 200m race, junior Shaun Blum placed sixth (23.27). Freshman Dante Harris placed 20th (24.64). Sophomore Isiah Mansel placed 22nd (24.70). Junior Chase Powell placed 24th (24.78) (out of 62 athletes).
In the 400m race, Shaun placed second (52.03). Junior Gerald Tibbetts placed sixth (53.21). Freshman Jason Robertson placed 11th (57.04). Freshman Jacob Montealegre placed 16th (58.02) (out of 43 athletes).
In the 800m race, junior Shivam Rangoo placed 25th (2:29.72). Junior Cole Wollenberg placed 29th (2:37.54). Sophomore Jayden Matos placed 33rd (2:45.26). Freshman Brandon Cordoba placed 34th (2:46.60) (out of 38 athletes).
In the 1600m race, junior Jordan Head placed tenth (5:03.60). Eighth-grader Austin Stewart placed 24th (5:27.79). Eighth-grader Brandon Martinez placed 27th (5:32.45). Freshman Tommy Foster placed 29th (5:36.56) (out of 47 athletes).
In the 3200m race, Austin placed eighth (12.14). Brandon placed ninth (12:24.70) (out of 12 athletes). In the 110 hurdles, junior Jan Paul Londono Placed second (18.38) (out 3 athletes). Jan also participated in 400 hurdles placing fourth (1:10.26) (out of four athletes).
In the 4×100 relay, Isaiah, Taije, Noah, and junior Justin Laroche placed first (45.68) (out of seven teams). In the 4×400 relay, Noah, Justin, Shaun, and Christopher placed second (3:40.59) (out of 13 teams). In the 4×800 relay, Shaun, Tommy, Austin, and Jordan placed sixth (10:16.68) (out of eight teams).
In the high jumps, Justin placed fifth (1.67m | 5’ 5.75”). Fabian placed 11th (1.47m | 4’ 9.75”). Junior Daylen Martineau placed 12th (1.47m | 4’ 9.75”) (out of 13 athletes). In the pole vault, Chase placed fifth (2.95m | 9’ 8”). Daylen placed tenth (2.35m | 7’ 8.5”). Freshman Drew Maniscalco placed 11th (2.20m | 7’ 2.5”) (out of 11 athletes).
In the long jump, junior William Urena placed 13th (5.41m | 17’ 9”). Taije placed 14th (5.40m | 17’ 7.5”). Dante placed 15th (5.37m | 17’ 7.5”). Jan placed 16th (5.22m | 17’ 1.5”) (out of 34 athletes).
In the triple jump, William placed first (11.47m | 37’ 7.75”). Jan placed second (11.25m | 36’ 11”). Christopher placed fourth (10.21m | 33’6 “). Daylen placed sixth (9.54m | 31’ 3.75”) (out of seven athletes).
Lastly, the tennis teams: On Monday, February 10th, the boys and girls varsity teams traveled to Archbishop Academy. The boys brought home a win of 5-2. On the other hand, the girls lost 4-3.
