On Feb. 13, the Coral Springs Charter School track team started its season. This track season has been a season of accomplishments. Multiple athletes have met goals, set personal records (PRs), and broken school records.
In a track meet, seventh grader Kendall Parrott broke the school’s 800-meter record of 2 minutes, 34.36 seconds, set by Abby Foster, with her time of 2 minutes, 33.92 seconds. The 800-meter isn’t the only school record Parrott set. In 2024, she set a school record of 5 minutes, 44.52 seconds in the 1,600-meter and 12 minutes, 10.24 seconds in the 3,200-meter run. Hopefully, Parrott keeps up her good work and continues to break records.
School records aren’t the only thing being broken. Students like sophomore Sydney Leath are making new PRs and setting goals to push not only themselves but their teammates as well. “My 4×100 team and I are trying to beat the school’s record, and with the rate we’re going, I think we might be able to!” Leath said. So far, the 4×100 team’s PR is 51.55 seconds, which is close but still short of the school record of 51.06 seconds.
In the fourth track meet, Leath set a new PR in the 100-meter with a time of 13.35 seconds. Then, in the latest track meet, she beat her PR by 0.13 seconds with a time of 13.22 seconds. “My personal goal is to be under 13 seconds by the end of the track season,” Leath said.
Other athletes, including Sophia Llano, Taije Spencer, and Kayla Christian, have also set PRs and brought the school wins. In javelin, junior Sophia Llano set a PR of 16.34 meters and then improved to 16.65 meters in the last meet. Taije Spencer placed first in the long jump, Kayla Christian set a PR of 1 minute, 12.40 seconds in the 400-meter run, and Jordan Sawyer placed first in the 100-meter run.
Let’s cheer on the Panthers as they continue their success and bring home more wins!
