Kanye West, now legally Ye, is no stranger to controversy, but recently, he has taken things to a new level. Over the past few weeks, Ye has been in the news for his Twitter posts and selling a literal swastika T-shirt. West recently posted a picture of a Ku Klux Klan outfit and captioned it “Outfit of the Day.” Kanye West may have lost his mind—or has he? Many fans remain loyal to Ye, but at what point does it no longer matter that he made Graduation?
This is not the first time Ye has done crazy things. In 2009, he famously interrupted Taylor Swift’s VMA acceptance speech. In 2020, he made bizarre political statements and claims about his family. In 2016, he was also going crazy on Twitter.
Interestingly enough, all these events were before an album release. After the Taylor Swift incident, he released the album critics say is his best, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. In 2016, he released The Life of Pablo, and in 2021, he released Donda. Many believe that his behavior is all just to garner attention before releasing an album. Some believe this tactic dates back to 2005, when West stated, “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people” just three days after dropping Late Registration.
However, Kanye has been open about his bipolar disorder, a mental illness that causes mood swings, impulsiveness and erratic behavior. Some fans feel for Ye and understand that the way he acts may be due to his condition. Others disagree. They argue that with his influence, there is no excuse for posting such things.
With all his latest controversies, fans are awaiting the release of Ye’s upcoming album Bully or even Vultures 3. Others worry he may have finally gone too far. Either way, everyone is waiting to see what Kanye West will do next.
