There’s an old and ongoing debate on what’s better, the book or the movie? While book lovers say nothing is better reading, I believe movies are better. They bring stories to life in a way books just can’t. They create visuals that even a creative imagination while reading a book cannot beat.
Movies are easier and faster to enjoy. Reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone might take someone a week or more, but the movie version tells the same story in just over two hours. It’s way more convenient when you don’t have much time, like during a busy school week or over the weekend. Many people have their days already filled and even though some movies might be long, knowing that you will experience the whole plot of a story in around two hours makes it more enjoyable.
Compared to books, movies show action instead of just describing it. In The Hunger Games, the intense arena scenes are way more thrilling on screen. You can see the fire, the fear on Katniss’s face, and the chaos around her. It’s hard for a book to create the same level of energy and emotion as a movie can with sound effects and visuals. Even hearing music that goes with a scene makes the whole thing a better experience.
Movies also can help more people connect with stories. Some people struggle with reading long books, but that doesn’t mean they should miss out on great stories. For example, Wonder is a touching story in both book and movie form, but the movie made it easier for more people to see Auggie’s struggles and understand his world.
Books are great in their own way, but movies are more exciting, more accessible, and more powerful. They take stories off the page and turn them into something you can feel, see, and remember. So next time a new movie based on a book comes out, give it a chance and it might even be better than the original.
