Being in color guard, band, theater, NHS and Tri-M, sophomore Madison Kuritz can practically do anything. It can be difficult for students to be involved in extracurriculars, let alone five. It is a lot to handle, but Kuritz is passionate in all of what she does. She makes time for the things she loves, while also being able to juggle school.
Madison Kuritz has been doing color guard and theater since the sixth grade. They are both by far her favorite, however one of them stands out to her more. “I’ve always thought that theater was my like ‘one true passion,’” Kuritz says, “but I’ve found that performing in really any capacity fills that space in my heart, and guard definitely found its space there.” Although she loves theater, the thrill of color guard has had the most impact on her. “The community that I have found within it has absolutely changed me, and the way I function, for the better.”
For her other extracurriculars, she has quite a lot experience in all of them. She has been doing band since the sixth grade. “After playing the trumpet for five years, I can absolutely say I’ve improved since first starting,” Kuritz says. Although she believes she is better than how she first started, she explains that she can do better. She started NHS year, thespians and thespians since eighth, and Tri-M since ninth.
All of the things Kuritz does makes her feel joy. “As a class [band], it’s definitely one of the ones I actually look forward to,” Kuritz says, “because even though I’m still working hard, it’s a shift of energy, and it lets me just release any stress without thinking too hard about long-term goals.” She loves showcasing her passions for others through thespians.
Beyond the extracurriculars in school, Kuritz has a variety of hobbies she enjoys to do. “I’ve probably picked up just about every hobby under the sun, and most of them have stuck,” Kuritz says. She likes to bake, read, write, sew, draw and play different kinds of instruments.
Kuritz is a performer; she has always been interested in drama since she was in elementary school. She may be a quiet and reserved person overall, but on and off stage she loves to be the center of attention.
Kuritz prioritizes following her morals. She always makes sure to consider new things and grow her knowledge. “My core principle is to always keep an open mind. It’s what allows me to grow and become better.”
