As finals and end of year exams creep around the corner, studying gets more and more intense.
Many people study in different ways in order to retain the most information and to figure out which studying method is best for them. These studying methods can consist of making flashcards, doing online quizzes, studying with a partner or group of people, and much more. Although these studying methods can be very beneficial, cramming these methods last minute can negatively affect someone's mental health in a plethora of ways.
Majority of end of exams consist of questions about what students have learned throughout the whole year. If a student attempts to learn a year's worth of knowledge in a short amount of time, it can cause anxiety and stress on them because they might not be able to retain all the information as easily or quickly as they would if they studied a little bit each day over a long amount of time.
More than 50% of students state that doing homework and studying last minute is the main cause of stress. Not only can getting all this stuff done last minute lead to large amounts of stress, but it can also deprive students of sleep. Because of all the studying and work that needs to be done, students might feel the need to stay up late in order to try and complete as much as they can before they physically cant do anymore. In order for students to have a healthy productive lifestyle, they need to maintain certain healthy habits, one of these being a well rested sleep schedule. Without this, kids might gain greater depression, anxiety, and fall behind in certain areas.
When students decide to study a little bit over a long period of time rather than a lot in a short amount of time, it helps improve memory retention and long term understanding
No student should ever cram a great load of work if it significantly impacts their mental health for the worst.
