In the past week, not a single soul could walk into a mall without seeing these 6 girls dancing on the window of a GAP clothing store. After actress Sydney Sweeney released her controversial jeans commercial with American Eagle, global girl group “Katseye” had millions of people praising their choreography to Kelis infamous song “Milkshake." With over 13 million views on the official YouTube video alone, this ad has made waves on the internet overnight.
This group of diverse girls from countries like the Philippines, Switzerland, South Korea, and the USA, is getting more popular every single day. Members Sophia, Manon, Daniela, Lara, Megan, and Yoonchae show off their dancing, singing, and rapping talents through their songs. Going back to an article I wrote about Katseye in 2024, just months after their debut, I said, “Some believe they will be yet another music group that fails in a year or two, while others think they have the potential to become something huge.” (https://cscsnews.com/3622/entertainment/katseye-will-music-groups-take-over-once-again/) From the way things are going right now, the latter opinion may be correct.
Even more recently, the group won their first award at the VMA’s as well as performing their hit song “Gnarly”. Katseye was nominated for the categories “Push Performance of the Year” and “Best Group”. They came out victorious for the Push Performance of the Year, after performing in front of thousands of fans for a pre-show performance.
People have taken a huge liking to the girls after their GAP ad. Netizens who have never heard of the group previously are now obsessed. Junior Sydney Leath exclaims, “I've watched the full ad about 6–7 times now!” “The way the girl with the long braids dances is so addicting.” Senior Saray Romero says about member Manon.
It is safe to say Katseye has made quite a splash on the internet in the past few weeks, the anticipation for what's to come from the group grows more around the world every day. Are they just a fad, or will the group continue to rise to the top, shutting down everyone's original statements?
