Antman Quantumania

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is an upcoming Marvel Studios production set to release on February 17, 2023. The cast includes returning talents like Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne), Jonathan Majors (Kang the Conqueror), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), and a multitude of other actors.

The trailer dropped on October 25, on multiple Marvel Studio’s social media accounts, as well as other places online. The director on this project is Peyton Reed, who directed the other Ant-Man movies as well as Bring It On, Yes Man, and many others. The producers include the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, who has more for Marvel fans coming soon.

The trailer that the general public saw on the 25th starts with some background to what’s been going on lately with Scott lang then dives into the potential beginnings of the climax later in the movie. It features what seems to be mistrust between Hope (The Wasp) and Janet (Hope’s mother), this could cause tension or even cause them to fight and separate from each other. We first looked into Kangs kingdom and his army. The dramatic ending to the trailer is Kang offering Scott a deal, he asks “So what’s it going to be, Ant-Man”.

The trailers of Ant-Man: Quantumania are different. Up until this point we, the public, have only gotten one trailer, whereas those who attended the San Diego Comi-con 2022 had the opportunity to watch a different one. Based on an account by a man who goes as ‘Straw_hat_goofy’ on social media, who has been to multiple Marvel premiers and is now working with Noovie,, this is the show before a movie that most theaters put on that have trivia, interviews, vr games and sometimes features celebrities, states what he saw at the San Diego Comic con in regard to the Quantumania trailer released there.

Some of the differences within the trailer include the San Francisco police department calling scott to inform him that his daughter cassie has been arrested for doing superhero work, both him and cassie end up having a fight about this. She defends herself by saying that she is actually trying to help people and do something and he argues back with the fact that he actually saved the world. There is also a new character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Rori Krylar, played by Bill Murray. “Krylar is an inhabitant of the Quantum Realm who came across Janet van Dyne during her stay there”,according to Marvel Cinematic universe Wiki, a fanbase many fans read to get caught up Marvel productions and even things from the comics. “In the comics, Krylar was an alien scientist of the Microverse who served a crazy warlord known as Visis and who had a machine capable of physically generating someone’s deepest fear.” According to the website Krylar even assisted in fighting the Hulk. Additionally in this trailer Scott Lang tells “Kang i’m an Avenger”, to which Kang replies” I am a conqueror.” This altered trailer ends with Kang asking Lang “have I killed you before?”

To summarize what has led up to this movie, you have to get caught up. The top movies and series to watch before you view are: the Ant-Man movies, Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, Loki, Ms. Marvel, Shang Chi, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and maybe even Eternals. All the Marvel movies are all connected up till this point and available on Disney Plus. The way the movies interlace with Quantumania can be somewhat confusing if you don’t fully know what is going on.

To start, one of the reasons Spider-Man: No Way Home is relevant is that it further introduces variants and reveals that they can be unwillingly transported to different worlds. A concept brought up again in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, where a new character to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), America Chavez, has the ability to travel the multiverse with her powers. She learns throughout the duration of the movie that she can control her abilities. Throughout that film, Wanda Maximoff, The Scarlet Witch, is attempting to take said powers, but stops and sacrifices herself. In this we see more variants, including Wanda and Steven Strange. We are introduced to the fact that not everyone in the multiverse has variants, which was originally believed.

In Shang Chi, we are presented with the “10 Rings” or the “Damned Rings” as an object, not just a group or a depiction. The rings are known to give the user unlimited power. By the end of the movie, we see that the rings are sending a message. It is speculated that this ties into what Cassie was sending the signal to in the Ant-Man trailer. It is also speculated that the rings match that of the structure surrounding Kang’s Kingdom. Even the writing on the sides looks similar. In Ms. Marvel, the symbol of The 10 Rings was seen carved into the ground surrounding Kamala’s (Ms. Marvel’s) ancestors. This could mean that the connection between these two movies goes deeper than originally believed. Ms. Marvel and Shang Chi are set to be connected based on the similarity of their respective relics. The 10 Rings, Kamala’s bangle (her bracelet where she gets her powers) and Kang’s Kingdom from the trailer emit blue energy and have what appears to be the same encryption on them. The rings and the bangle were also announced as the important artifacts of the Multiverse Saga, much like the Infinity Stones were in the Infinity Saga. It is rumored that Kang is also hunting for these items, which is possibly why he asks Scott’s help.

The most prominent connection may just be in the show Loki. In Loki, the latest new setting as of June 2021 is the Time Variance Authority (TVA). This was the first Marvel production to feature variants. A variant is a version of someone from another universe. There are an infinite number of variants per being. By the finale of season one, we see that Kang, a new character, has won and gained something he clearly was waiting for. In the next scene he is shown in the form of a statue where the statues original beings in charge of the TVA were. We know from the trailer of Ant-man: Quantummania that Kang is one of the main characters in the upcoming movie, so this may tie in with Loki.

Kang the Conqueror, also known as “He Who Remains” or “Master of Time,” is a super villain from Marvel Comics. Based on the comics, Kang is on a journey to become the ruler of universes. He uses the technology of the future to rule and conquer. Kang is also seen conversing with Scott Lang (Ant-man). He seems to be offering him a deal, maybe an exchange of favors. But what Scott will choose is anybody’s guess.

The fact that this is the third movie in a character trilogy may be concerning to others. Based on the past movies, in the third, the main character seems to lose something really important to them. For example, Captain America lost his shield, Iron Man lost his suits, Spider-Man lost his identity and friends, and Thor lost his people and his hammer, Mjölnir. So, fans are concerned by the looks of how beat up Scott was that he might have lost something as well; maybe his daughter, or maybe his own life.
