my least favorite thing
the thing i’ve dreaded since i was a little girl
since my pink sketchers turned to high heels
since justin bieber posters turned to empty walls
since it was time to grow up

but no one tells you what growing up truly is
it’s facing the truth
even when you don’t want to
it’s knowing that life goes on
whether you want it to or not

losing people you thought would always be there
getting your heart broken
losing family members
realizing that in just a few months
your childhood is gone

you will walk across the stage
accomplish something you’ve dreamed about
but say goodbye to what’s behind you

your entire childhood changed
best friends turned to strangers
family became distant

chalk on the sidewalk
fashion shows in the living room
watching disney shows
reading pinkalicious

all that’s gone
10 years ago, 18 seemed like a lifetime away
but now it’s reality
change is setting in
and today’s tears are wiped away with memories of yesterday
and who you used to be
