I stand in the courtroom, a man of ordinary appearance,
But within me, a storm rages, unseen and fierce.
Accused of a crime I cannot fathom committing,
The weight of uncertainty is heavy, but ever so fitting.
Did I take a life? The question echoes in my mind,
A haunting refrain that leaves me blind.
Whispers of doubt swirl around me like a shroud,
Yet I cling to my innocence, resilient, unbowed.
As the trial progresses, reality blurs and distorts,
Each piece of evidence is a dagger, sharp and short.
I plead my case with desperation and fear,
But the truth remains elusive, never near.
Then she enters, my wife, with eyes filled with sorrow,
And with her words, my world crumbles, no tomorrow.
She reveals the dark secret buried deep within,
And suddenly, the walls start to close in.
Confined to the asylum, a prisoner of my own mind,
Lost in a labyrinth of madness, cruel and unkind.
The truth revealed, the facade shattered and torn,
In the shadows of insanity, forever to mourn.
Shattered
“Like grains of sand slipping through fingers, the mind can slowly erode, each thought a whisper of its former self, until the person becomes a mere shadow of who they once were.” – Unknown.
