Dear Panthers,
In this episode of the Panthers Playbook, I’m excited to share this week’s team and individual player’s highlights, game scores, and upcoming events! As the fall season ends, sports are wrapping up their seasons or advancing to higher competitions. Soon, winter sports will take center stage and begin their preparations.
Starting with football: On Friday, October 2nd, our Panther football team played their first District match against Umatilla. Despite giving it their all, the game ended with a tough 26-36 loss. The Panthers wrapped up their fall season with a solid 4-6 record, showing heart and hustle every step of the way.
Next up, the bowling team: After a great day at Districts, the bowling team was able to place for states. After a long three-four hour ride the team made it to Orlando to play on Tuesday, October 29th. Out of 36 teams, the girls placed 18. However, only the top 16 teams moved to the next game. While their season has ended, they can still celebrate an incredible year filled with hard work, growth, and unforgettable moments.
Following the golf team: On Monday, October 28th, our golfers hit the course for Districts at Boca Lago. Congratulations to the following golfers who played on this beautiful evening, junior Natalia Conte who shot 103, and sophomore Isabella Goodman who shot 105,
On the boys’ sides, senior Brandon Moll shot 97, senior Floyd Harris shot 101, junior Edward Canard shot 103, junior Troy Sova shot 104, and sophomore Jordan Herman shot 107. With this final game, the 2024 golf season comes to a close. Great job to all the players for their dedication and hard work throughout the year
Moving on to the cross country team: On Tuesday, October 29 our XC team attended FHSAA District 2A-7. On this wonderful evening, our athletes ran their hardest to represent our school. Our girl’s varsity team placed fourth out of 18 teams. They had a total time of 1:49:00, with an average time of 21:48, and a score of 117.
Congratulations to our following runners, eighth-grader Kendall Parrott who zoomed to third place with a time of 19:45.3, along with her teammate, freshman Lily Richardson who powered through to place 16th with a total time of 21:34.5, and seventh-grader Cecilia Kozlowski who showed determination to place 28th with a total time of 22:21.1 (out of 169 runners). With these scores, the girls advance to regionals.
On the boys side, our boys varsity placed 11th out of 21 teams. They ended with a total time of 1:36:32, an average time of 19:18, and a score of 262. Congratulations to the following runners, Sophomore Lucas Werth who ran with a full heart to place 36th with a total time of 18:38.4, junior Jordan Head who put a wonderful fight to the finish line placing 41st with 18:50.0, and eighth-grader Austin Stewart who showed incredible determination placing 59th with 19:28.9.
To finalize, the swimming team: On Monday, October 28th, the swimming team attended Districts, where 15 swimmers earned the opportunity to advance to regionals on Saturday, November 9th. The boys placed 4th with 253.5 points, the girls placed 5th with 244 points, and combined they earned 497.5 points.
In the 200-yard Medley Relay, sophomore Anthony Palumbo, sophomore John Albornoz, sophomore Brian Hamilton, and Christopher Chaison swam to first place with a winning time of 1:43.39. Sophomore Mariana Montes, sophomore Addison Palumbo, junior Alejandra Gil Reestrepo, and junior Amanda Robins placed fourth with a total time of 2:01.31. In the 200-yard Free, Anthony placed sixth with a time of 1:56.32, and junior Sebastian Rincon Villegas powered through to place 11th with 2:03.48. Alejandra swam her heart out securing second place with a time of 2:00.30, and junior Claire O’Connor placed tenth with a time of 2:20.47.
In the 200-yard Individual Medley (IM), John powered to the water to place first with a time of 2:01.31, while sophomore Molly Chaison raced to an eighth-place finish with a solid 2:42.18. In the 50-yard free, Brian spirited to place second with a time of 22.17, and junior Sam Springer made a splash in ninth place with a time of 27.53. In the 100 yard Free, Brian once again showed off his swimming skills and placed second with a total time of 49.07, Amanda placed sixth with a time of 1:00.74, and Claire finished strong placing tenth with 1:03.12
In the 100-yard Fly, Gavin Mello placed eighth with a time of 1:12.68, and Mariana placed second with a time of 1:00.29. In the 200-yard Free Relay, the men’s team—Sebastian, junior Juan Lopez, junior Will Wizst, and Gavin—gave it their all, placing seventh with a total time of 1:46.30. On the women’s side, Amanda, Sam, Claire, and Addison placed fourth with a total time of 1:51.83.
In the 100-yard Back, Anthony dominated the competition placing first with a time of 57.98, while Sebastian powered through to finish seventh with 1:05.96. Marianna made some waves and placed third with a time of 1:02.37, and Sam showed determination, securing a strong ninth with 1:11.17. In the 100-yard Breast, John placed first with a time of 1:02.55, and Christopher placed seventh with a time of 1:11.31. Junior Anabel Holt put up a wonderful fight, touching the wall at 1:32.12 placing 11th. Another round of fast swims and wonderful results!
In the 400-yard Free Relay, John, Anthony, Christopher, and Brian placed through the water, powering their way to third with a total time of 3:25.62. On the women’s team—Alejandra, Addison, Amanda, and Mariana—also placed third with a total time of 3:53.42. In the 500-yard Free, Alejandra turned up the heat, placing first with 5:20.71. Addison wasn’t far behind, placing fifth with a time of 5:42.42.
