What was thought to be a teenage dream is a deep, dark abyss

In the world of teenagers there are two paths the path of strife or the other which will eat you alive.

16
The age to be alive
They said it’s just the right age.
What are you doing with your life?
The countless hopes and dreams that we await
Crushing us by stress and a demanding gate.
We’re falling like stones off a mountain
Trying to hold it all together.

The pressure feeling like your chest is tightening
Your lungs are giving out.
The pressure to find your destiny
Is like a blank canvas waiting to be drawn
Hoping that some color would appear.

17
You’re not too young
But not too old.
Where are you going to college?
The pressure once again lurking in
Like the shadow who stays behind you
But is nowhere to be seen.

Sleepless nights, drained and worn
I crumble.
Struggling to keep up with the chaos that is me.
Textbooks collecting dust,
Papers waiting to be written,
Yet I know nothing at all.
For I am the overflowed bathtub
The light that never stops flickering
And the man trying to push the cart down the mountain.
