The soccer season has begun and there are some very promising players on the soccer team this year. One of these players has been working extra hard in the off-season and the work has been showing in their game and their improvement. Sophomore Matthew Baptiste has trained to improve his skills and is a very promising talent on the field. This article will go over what he has been doing before the season, what his training/free time looks like, his expectations, and what he is looking forward to this season.
Just as in every sport, how much you put in and what you put in is what you’re going to get out of it. Matthew has been using this logic on the field to maximize his performance during games. “When I train I focus on strengthening the weaknesses in my game and to sharpen the strengths that I already possess. This helps all areas of my game to improve without having one area overwhelmingly be better than another area in my game.”
Matthew’s time on the field is not the only thing that provides for his performance during games; what he does when he is at home also does. When asked what he does at home to improve explains that at home he has a great family that supports him in achieving his goals. He also states that he pays attention to the physiological part of the game and does mental training. All of these aspects are playing a big part in the level that he is displaying during games.
Matthew has expectations that he hopes to achieve and surpass during this season. He states, “I personally expect myself to do well this season. I want to be a useful player on the team and provide goals during our games.” These expectations of himself are a good way to keep a positive mindset when training and playing games. It also allows him to set goals that he has to achieve to meet his expectations when he steps on the field.
The experiences along the way are what makes a sport such a fun activity to participate in. “I look forward to making memories with my teammates and just having fun on the field this season,” Matthew states when asked what he is looking forward to during this season. These experiences form bonds between the players and make each of their love for the sport grow.
Overall Matthew has been showing a bright future with his performance on the field and has been going through the right path. Recently he had a game-winning goal against Calvary Christian Academy to secure their first win of the season and has backed this up with another goal in the next game after that. This season has many fun experiences and intense games awaiting the team and he will take it as they come.
