It’s not often you see a freshman starting at quarterback but this year freshman Kai Gray led the Panthers to a respectable 5 win season. Gray showed he can handle playing varsity football keeping the Panthers competitive through the season.
Stepping in as a freshman is not easy. “Its been very tough competing at a high level.” said Gray. This season has had its ups and downs but Grey looks promising under center. One highlight came when he threw the game winning touchdown over Pine Crest, a moment that showed his composure and ability to get the job done when it matters most.
Grey credits his teammates with helping him adjust. “They help me get up to speed on plays and stuff like that.” he said. Grey shows a good understanding of the playbook and fits in well with the team’s scheme. He shows a good understanding of the game, something that is necessary for a run heavy team like the Panthers.
“Hes a great athlete with an unlimited amount of potential.” Said junior Christian Clinkscale. “He could become one of the best quarterbacks Charter has seen in a while.” His teammates believe in him and agree he has what it takes to become a star.
Despite the challenges of being a freshman starter, Grey has earned the respect of his teammates and coaches alike. With good support around him and a full offseason to develop his skills, Grey is set to have a promising future under center.
