Interact Club hosted their Halloween Escape Rooms on October 23 and 24, which featured characters such as Freddy Krueger, Pennywise, and Five Nights at Freddy’s to support those being affected by breast cancer.
Interact Club teaches students about developing leadership, as well as inspiring and engaging students with an opportunity to participate in school and community service events that create international action. They are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Coral Springs and by Daniella Oliveira. Meetings are generally on the second and fourth Thursdays of every month from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in room 224.
“We brought in a lot of people,” said sophomore Daiana Arias. “The rooms were sold out overall, everyone had a fun time, it was nice, and it was fun setting up”.
Besides all the fun and spookiness at the escape room, students who attended claimed that it helped them with their teamwork, problem solving, communication, and made their friendships even stronger.
Since we celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout the month of October, the escape room funds have gone to a breast cancer foundation called the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
The Susan G. Komen Foundation was founded in 1982 in Dallas, Texas by Nancy G. Brinker. Brinker originally had created the foundation in honor of her sister who had experienced breast cancer herself. The foundation has raised billions of dollars for breast cancer research, education, and more. “The escape room raised 900 dollars and donated a portion of profit to Susan G. Komen due to October being breast cancer awareness month,” said Oliveira.
Through these escape rooms, Interact Club has been able to do more than just create a fun experience for its members; they were able to make a difference.
