Cheer is more than just cheering on a football team with loud voices; it’s about a routine and being on the stage with your friends. Competitive cheer is not an easy sport to take on, but our school thrives in it. Competitive cheer is an elite sport that uses strength and hard work. Here at Coral Springs Charter, we have just that team. Our competitive cheer team has been working hard since the start of October. Recently, they had their first cheer competition at West Broward High School on Nov. 15.

The hardworking team is run by Mackenzie Palumbo, an English teacher at Coral Springs Charter. She cheered when she was younger and leads our team with pride and passion. Her coaching led our competitive team to first place at their first competition at West Broward High School. This team had an amazing performance; their cheers echoed in the gym, and their kicks flew higher than ever. After their performance on Saturday, many people had amazing things to say. “I had many compliments from spectators. I see so much potential in this team, and I am so proud of everyone,” said Palumbo. This team truly looks so good, with all the tight motions and loud cheers. The athletes practice their best three to four times a week, giving every practice their best effort.

With their cheers still echoing in the gym and the memory of their high-flying kicks fresh, this first-place finish provides the team a boost of confidence. The Coral Springs Charter team has set a high and achievable standard for the rest of their season, proving that their commitment to this elite sport is on the verge of bringing home even greater championship success.
