The soccer season has begun and the Panthers are sitting at 4-3-1. Junior, Ricardo Acosta, is having a good year. Playing for both Varsity, and Junior Varsity, he has shown his skill at both levels and is ready to become a star for the Panthers.
“The season is going pretty well, I think that this is my best season out of my three years,” said Acosta. He put in a lot of work during the offseason, and it is really showing. He has been in good form recently for both Varsity and JV.
“My main goal this season is to contribute in any way I can,” said Acosta. When asked about his goals. Acosta has been putting in loads of effort, practicing everyday and constantly trying to improve his skills.
Acosta is only two goals away from breaking his personal season high. Chasing that achievement is motivating him to be the best player he can be. He is staying disciplined and motivated. “Listening to Argentinian music is a big thing for me, I would say it’s like a good luck ritual.”
However, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, Acosta has also had some struggles. “My biggest struggle has been finding a stable place in the starting eleven,” he said. He has been keeping a positive mentality and focusing on the good things, “I know I will find my way, and even if I don’t receive the minutes I want, I will still try and contribute all that I can,” said Acosta. This mentality is the reason why he is such a good athlete.
Acosta’s idol is soccer superstar Lionel Messi, inspired by his story. They both come from South American countries, and he admires his incredible work ethic. He grew up watching Messi, playing for his favorite team, Barcelona FC, and fell in love with his style of play.
His positive mentality, and good mindset allow him to stay focused and make the best out of a poor situation. His dedication will surely pay off with a spot in the starting line up and the minutes he deserves. Keep an eye on him, he has been training and putting in the work, and is waiting for his opportunity to show what he can do.
