On the Court and in the Classroom
At Coral Springs Charter, our basketball season is arriving at the finish line. The season was filled with challenges, adjustments, and mixed emotions. To finish everything off we spoke to the athletes on the Varsity Basketball team about their experiences on and off the court.
Meet the Players Dominating the Paint:
We have: Max Bennet (11th Grade, Shooting Guard), Rudolph Brown (12th Grade, Center), Dante Harris (10th Grade, Center) , Tajhai Malcom (12th Grade, Forward) , Jake Peysakhovich ( 12th Grade, Point/Shooting Guard), Gavin Slade (12th Grade, Small Forward) , and Mike Pierre (10th Grade, Point Guard)
One thing that everyone agreed on is that this year was a challenge. Brown and Peysakhovich both admitted it was slightly difficult to adjust to the new players. Brown stated even though the team may be small they are “really fast”.
On the court, the devotion is real. Malcom was honest saying that that the season was “terrible”, while Harris is already starting to improve his game saying he wants to work on his long-distance shooting.
The most human part of the grind is balancing school. Being a student-athlete can be a headache. Slade kept it all real saying “ it's not the best feeling bro…. I go to school, play basketball, and go to bed.” Whether they finish work between classes or any spare time like Bennet or Pierre, or using video games to relax like Malcom, these guys tried their very best to stay on track this season and everyone is proud. It wasn’t a perfect season, but they stuck it out together. As a team.
