The Charter Baseball team has a key player returning from injury. Junior pitcher Colin Maniscalco has been out for eight months after suffering an elbow injury over the summer. After all the rehabilitation and hard work, he is weeks away from being fully cleared and stepping back on the mound.
“I tore my ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in my elbow,” said Maniscalco. This is a particularly bad injury in baseball as a UCL tear destabilizes the elbow and prevents the ability to do a throwing motion. Luckily, there is a procedure, Tommy John surgery, that can repair it.
The injury completely changed Maniscalco’s plans going into the season. Instead of focusing on getting better in the offseason, he had to focus on recovering.
“I have been doing months of physical therapy and rehab. My four month throwing program ends in two weeks and I will return to play.” He shared. His dedication to the recovery shows just how determined he is to come back to help the Panthers this season.
He is confident the injury will not affect his game and says that he is excited to see all his strength training pay off. His mindset and resilience helped him push through one of the toughest injuries a baseball player can get.
His goal of starting for the Panthers again helped to keep him motivated, sticking to his rehab, throwing program, and even working to get stronger highlight his extreme dedication and commitment.
With his positive attitude and confidence Maniscalco is ready to make his long awaited return. After eight months of hard work his comeback will definitely be one to look out for.
