The dance concert is an event students look for every year, with students in high school and even middle school participate in this event. They start to prepare their dances at the beginning of the year to perform them during spring.
The dance concert was from Mar. 9 through 11. Students performed in those 3 days and on the third night, the seniors had an extra special dance and a ceremony for it being their last year. All days have been sold out to students, parents and faculty.
Senior Justin Laroche is in Dance 2 and Dance 1. He feels that the night went amazing but it was stressful. Having powerful and positive energy is what got them through the night. “While we have worked on these dances since almost the beginning of the school year we just had to get out of our heads and just have fun and a good time,” said Laroche. He feels he could have improved on his stamina during the dances and this meant a lot to him to be involved in dance with his friends because it was his last year. He put all his trust in his teacher and danced his heart out for one last time.
Sophomore Braylin Antonini was a part of Dance 1. She feels that the energy in the theatre was good but didn’t reach its full potential until the last night on Wednesday. “In my opinion I think that the hip hop dance was the best one,” said Antonini. “Not only was the music sensational, the energy the crowd brought made it a fun and interactive experience that the audience and dancers were able to have.” She feels she could have improved on the way she handles her stress. Instead of letting her feelings and emotions get to her, she wants to look beyond it all and just do the best she can.
The big take aways from the dance concert is not just dancing to the music it goes beyond that. Having to practice the dance and collaborate with others builds friendships and memories. People seem to enjoy the vibes and energy of this program because there is a high demand every year for the tickets and they always sell out. This program also helps the students build confidence and teamwork qualities that will improve their future careers.
Whether it’s the last show for a senior or the first one for a freshman the dance concert proved to be more than just a performance but an experience for the audience and the dancers. The three night showcase served as a powerful reminder of the dedication in the performing arts department.
