From Feb. 20 through Feb. 22, our Student Government students attended the Florida Association of Student Councils (FASC) Conference at Dr. Joaquin Garcia High School.

At the event, students learned leadership skills, went to many workshops, and heard from different schools. Our high school SGA members were successful and won more than five awards as well as middle school winning three. More than 1000 students attended the event, all leaders from their respective schools.

FASC was not only an opportunity to learn, but also an opportunity to make new friends. “FASC was overall a great experience for me,” said Sixth Grader Parker Lindsay. “All of the kids there were so welcoming, and they were all leaders.”

On Fri. Feb. 20, our SGA students left for FASC, and they welcomed our school. There was line dancing, campaigns, and games to play. People were running for certain positions for FASC, such as for president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and more.

On day two, everyone was split into groups to go to workshops, where students from different schools shared what they did at their school to give ideas. “Although I was scared to do these workshops, it actually benefited me, “ said Seventh Grader Molly Mayer. “Meeting all of these new people made you have more friends and enjoy your experience even more.” Two middle schoolers at our school hosted one of these workshops.

On the third and final day, FASC not only provided opportunities for many schools, it also provided many motivational speakers such as Caleb Wesco. “You are under temporary construction for permeant improvement,” Wesco said.

Overall, FASC for our student government aimed towards collaborating with others , teamwork, and communication skills. Our SGA received many awards and is most definitely a weekend to remember!
