We all know the feeling of wanting to be included or wanting to be loved., but are humans the only one that feel this way?
Trending all over social media, Punch, the male Japanese macaque monkey, knows this feelings to well. Punch lives in Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan and has been going insanely viral recently all over the internet.
Shortly after punch the monkey was born, he was abandoned by his very own mother. Because of this, punch was left to try and survive on his own and learn how to live without a mother figure at a very young age. When zookeepers noticed this, they decided to provide punch with an stuffed animal orangutan that can be bought from IKEA.
After this plush monkey was left for him, punch was immediately so clingy and would never leave its side. Punch would drag this toy monkey all around his home and would constantly cuddle with it close. Punch found the mother comfort he never received in this plush, especially due to the fact of how he was intensely picked on and bullied by the other monkeys at the zoo.
Despite punch becoming viral because of his heartbreaking videos of him being severely isolated and bullied, Ichikawa City Zoo reported that punch is indeed living a better life. They notice him finally getting along with other Japanese macaque monkeys. Along with this, the zoo also reported that punch even found one close monkey friend that he feels comfortable enough to cling on and find comfort in.
This story became known worldwide and even started a "#HangInTherePunch" trend all over social media. This situation led viewers to make fanart, buy monkey plushies, and overall have a deeper understanding of how much comfort means to someone, whether an animal or a human.
