Season 4 of Invincible is shaping up to deliver the most intense finale yet, and there are a few major clues that are pointing out to how it could all go down. With Mark’s ongoing struggles from his Viltrumite identity to the raging threat of the war on Viltrum, the show has been setting up a finale to the season that could completely change the world, and Mark himself.
While Invincible is closely portrayed based on the originally written comics, these predictions will be solely relying on the show’s plot. Additionally, this review includes spoilers.
One of the biggest clues leading into the Season 4 finale is coming from the destruction of Viltrum. After the events of Episode 7, the Viltrumite Empire is no longer in a position of dominance, but instead desperation. The loss of their home planet is crucial to what could happen in Episode 8, especially with the looming threat of a Viltrumite invasion on Earth. The Viltrumites have nothing to lose and will likely be much more unpredictable. However, the finale could center around how they respond to this, rather than just another battle against the Coalition.
Another key factor heading into the finale is Grand Regent Thragg’s presence. As the leader of the Viltrumites,Thragg has easily proven to be a far more dangerous opponent than anyone Mark has faced so far. His strength and control make him a direct component into the rebuilding of the Viltrumite race. Thragg’s role is even more important now since he has to lead his broken yet still powerful empire. Because of this, the finale could center around Thragg taking action and potentially forcing a confrontation on Earth that pushes Mark to his limits.
Another possibility is that the remaining Viltrumites focus on conquering Earth, especially if they’re trying to rebuild and prove that they are still in control. This can be similar to what happened back in Season 3, Episode 8, where the multiple variants of Mark from other dimensions invaded Earth, showing how quickly everything can become out of control. If something like that happens again, the finale could put civilians at risk and cause Earth to face a similar fate as Viltrum, forcing Mark into a position that makes protecting the planet his biggest challenge yet.
Beyond the Viltrum war however, the finale could also focus on the personal tensions that have been building. Nolan could end up facing Debbie once more because of Oliver’s injuries, which will add a more emotional side to everything going on. Also, Mark may deal with Cecil, especially after the second and now final battle with conquest nearly cost his life. Addressing these conflicts would show that the finale isn’t just about the war itself but about the consequences of the choices made.
Overall, the Season 4 finale has the potential to go in many directions, all of which are pointing towards a major shift in the story. Whether Thragg takes response to losing his home and Earth becoming the new battlefield, the stakes are higher than they have ever been. No matter how it plays out, the finale is most likely going to leave a lasting impact on both Earth and Mark himself.
