On Mar. 20, Amazon MGM Studios released “Project Hail Mary”, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Starring Ryan Gosling as science teacher Ryland Grace, the story centers around his waking up on a spaceship with no recollection of how he got there in the first place. As he continues to regain his memory, he has to figure out how to stop the sun from dying.
One of the gems of this film is Gosling’s performance. He takes the film to new heights with his excellent comedic timing in some moments and his ability to draw it back for more emotional scenes. His range in regards to his acting makes the film more dynamic as well as the character of Grace.
Gosling’s acting added to the film’s overall emotional appeal, with his interactions with Rocky creating a bond audiences could easily fall in love with. With a message revolving around the connection and friendship between the film’s characters, audience members left the theater with heart warming thoughts.
Along with relationships adding to the film’s overall appeal, the visual effects transport the audience to the stars. The space sequences left those in the theater mesmerized and staring at the Sun.
Although the film does an excellent job with its emotional moments, the shifts between comedic scenes and serious scenes were abrupt and left many confused at times. It felt slightly uncomfortable and took a moment to set in the new tone of the scene with the audience.
Overall, “Project Hail Mary” provides audience members with a new sci-fi adventure that warms the heart and is visually stunning/
