Lockers are beginning to empty and tassels are close to turning. Seniors are counting down the days until they don’t have to walk the halls of Coral Springs Charter ever again. Each Senior will leave their past behind this Friday while their younger peers and teachers are in full support. This is known as the Senior Walkout, a bitter-sweet moment that is a tradition to give the 12th graders a final goodbye. Friendships bloomed from as early as 6th grade and have brought students much closer within their 7 years at CSCS.
Another major event that takes place towards the end of every student’s senior year is Graduation. The planning, the invitations, and the walk across the stage to receive a diploma are all a part of this heartfelt moment to celebrate the full 13 years you’ve worked to get it. Though it is exciting, it can be very emotional for friends and family who have known you as the young individual you are, this represents a life changing transition that can make or break your future. Many students fear uncertainty of their future, financial burdens, or even separation anxiety for those leaving home. Some great ways of preventing this can be staying connected with loved ones, establishing a daily routine, or even creating a savings account to avoid financial instability.
As we talked about the transitions, it’s time to truly look into what some students are planning on pursuing after high school. This can be anything from immediately going into the workforce and having side hustles to gaining a degree in a major of choice to then later begin their career. Senior Edward Monohan said, “My main goal after high school is to study animal science with the hope of one day becoming a veterinarian”. He will be attending vet school after getting his bachelor’s degree. Senior Caleb Jean-Baptiste said, “I plan on attending Florida Atlantic University to get my 4 year degree in biology, and attending medical school”.
Whether students plan on going to school or becoming a police officer, there are so many different career choices that will lead students to success. At the end of this week, senior traditions will be set in place for another class and the current seniors will be entering a world where seeking for a job or going to school will seem much more than just a hobby or a place to be. These traditions are meeting transitions and these Seniors are ready.
