The high school drama department is performing the play, Puffs, on November 6th, 7th, and 8th. Puffs, a parody of the Harry Potter series, written by Matt Cox, is told from the perspective of the Puffs’ (Hufflepuff) house in the book series. It follows the story of Wayne, Oliver, and Megan, three Puffs, as they navigate seven years at the school, focusing on growth, friendship, and loyalty, like the Puffs are all about.
Wayne Hopkins (played by junior Ian Wilson), the play’s protagonist, is the relatable character of the show. His journey mirrors that of many high schoolers, unsure of where he fits in, but determined to make a difference. He embodies the student who dreams of being special, reminding us that greatness often begins by simply trying your best.
Surrounding him are the rest of the puffs, a group of friends who bring chaos to every scene. The Puffs aren’t the chosen ones, but they sure act like it. Through loyalty, laughter, and courage, they redefine what it means to be a Puff in a world where they are often overlooked.
Beyond the Puffs themselves, the play’s world comes to life through the ensemble. Each group — from rival houses to eccentric professors — adds color and energy to the story. Their exciting performances and creative staging make the audience feel part of the whirlwind of surprises the show has to offer. It’s a reminder that every role, no matter how small, shapes the story.
The magic doesn’t end onstage. Behind every spell, dramatic light cue, sound effect, and prop, is the tech crew, who bring the world to life. From building the set to late night rehearsals, the group found strength in working together, proving that the heart of the show lies in collaboration.
Whether onstage or off, Puffs is about finding family in unexpected places. The story reminds us that we all matter, even when no one is watching.
